Watch out for those limiting beliefs

Although a door has been opened for me and things are moving fast in my life, sometimes I need to slow down.  Last week I worked really hard setting up My OpenLeaf Journey blog and producing a five day introduction.  This was as well as working full-time in my day job, looking after my family, updating my other blogs and trying to keep up with an online writing course.  I’m not going to lie about it - I wore myself out, which left me little time for my family.

Trying something different

On Sunday I decided to stay in bed and so some writing instead of getting up and rushing around – I called it a ‘writing lay in’ (and I even blogged about it in My Writing Notebook).  My limiting beliefs would usually have told me that this wouldn’t work – I would get disturbed, the things that I would normally ‘get on with’ wouldn’t get done.   The result – the family helped around the house and the children actually joined me in bed and did some writing themselves.  It was lovely!

What I learnt from this exercise was that it’s okay to do something different; do something I long to do instead of what I feel I ought to do.  I never believed that this would work, but it did.   What are your limiting beliefs?

How this relates to getting the life I want

One of the important messages that I learnt from Noel Walker’s book Get the Life you Want is that in order to live a fulfilling life and get the health and happiness I deserve, I have to do more of what I want to do and less of what I don’t.  I also need to watch out for my limiting beliefs some of which are: I have to do everything, I won’t get everything done, and no one will help. 

I know that I am changing my ways and there was a time that I would have worn myself out cleaning the house from top to bottom just because I felt it needed to be done.  In those days I would not have prioritised the things I love doing like writing, meditation, walking, relaxing and spending time with the family.  I’m also learning that I need to let others help.

Things are changing for me…
